Disaster alert: Stock up on rations for so many days, INDIA’s biggest warning, lockdown is about to be imposed!
The IMD has forecast severe weather, including heavy rainfall, dense fog, and snow across several states. The advisory warns people to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a stern warning for multiple states across India, signaling the onset of extreme weather conditions reminiscent of the lockdown days during the COVID-19 pandemic. Citizens are urged to stock up on essential supplies, as stepping outside may become hazardous in the coming days.
IMD Issues Nationwide Weather Alert
The IMD has forecast severe weather, including heavy rainfall, dense fog, and snow across several states. The advisory warns people to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary. The department emphasized preparing for disruptions in daily life as weather intensifies across regions.
Snowfall Wreaks Havoc in the Mountains
The situation in the Himalayan states is alarming, with heavy snowfall recorded in Himachal Pradesh over the weekend. Key tourist hubs like Shimla, Kufri, and Churdhar are blanketed in snow, and further snowfall is expected early this week. The sudden weather shift is likely to create travel disruptions and power outages.
Uttarakhand has also experienced its first significant snowfall of the season, providing much-awaited relief for locals and tourists. However, the icy conditions are expected to escalate, particularly in higher altitudes.
In Jammu & Kashmir, temperatures have plummeted drastically, with many areas, including Srinagar and Shopian, recording lows of minus five degrees Celsius. The IMD predicts further drops in temperatures and extended periods of harsh winter conditions.
Rain and Cold Wave Grips Plains
In the plains, the effects of the Western Disturbance originating from the Bay of Bengal are being felt strongly.
- Jharkhand has experienced consistent rainfall since Monday morning, accompanied by a 3-degree Celsius drop in temperature. More rainfall is expected in several districts over the next two days.
- Bihar is also bracing for widespread rainfall, with IMD issuing alerts for fog and mist in various regions, causing visibility issues for commuters.
South India Also Faces Weather Turmoil
The Western Disturbance is impacting southern states as well:
- Kerala and Andhra Pradesh coastal regions are witnessing rapid weather changes.
- Torrential rainfall has prompted school closures in parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
The IMD has advised residents in these areas to avoid venturing out, especially near waterlogged zones or vulnerable locations.
Extreme Cold Wave in North India
Residents of northern states, particularly Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana, are bracing for an intense cold wave. Dense fog and heavy mist are expected to disrupt transportation, with several districts witnessing near-zero visibility early in the mornings.
The sharp decline in temperature is likely to force authorities to declare winter vacations for schools and colleges soon.
Weather Disruptions Affect Rail and Air Travel
The adverse weather has already impacted transportation:
- The Indian Railways has announced cancellations of several trains and route diversions for others to ensure passenger safety.
- Flight schedules are also being heavily affected, with numerous delays and cancellations reported on Monday.
These disruptions are expected to persist as conditions worsen across the country.
